WFQ Annual Meeting December 8th

The "Annual Meeting" required by our bylaws will be held Wednesday, December 8th, at 5:30 p.m. at the Home Town Cafe in Sedro-Woolley. Members are encouraged to attend! We will elect directors for the coming year and continue to plan our next quilt show!

Our membership year is the calendar year so dues are due again in time for January 1st. Our dues are $5 per year! Such a bargain. If you're a Skagit County Quilter and you want to join us, come to our meeting! We typically meet once a month until about February when things heat up for the quilt show planning and then we meet twice a month.

Word on the street is that people are making quilts in anticipation of our 2011 show, which will again be held during the first week in June. Where will it be? No site selected yet, but we're committed to being downtown with the Blast from the Past festival.

Our show theme for 2011 is "Blast of Color" and this promises to be a fabulous theme! A challenge is in the works for those of you who love to meet a challenge, and we have lots of other plans in store.

Do you know a business who would like to be a sponsor of our show? Are you a business who would like to sponsor our show? If you're targeting the quilting community for your advertising, this is the place to be. Contact us via this blog for more info.

Above is a photo of our recent presentation to the Sedro-Woolley Eagles Club for their gracious help in our search for a venue for the 2010 show. What will they do with this great quilt designed by Julie Anderson? We can hardly wait to find out!

Embellished quilts

If you're a fan of dense quilting and intense embellishment, you loved these two quilts from the WFQ show! Linda Downing's lovingly embellished crazy quilt and Sharyn Erickson's lavishly created tree quilt. Both perfect and fascinating!

Two quilt show statistics and two beautiful quilts

Many of you know that we had a "preliminary final count". The "final final count" is:

Blast of Blooms had 208 quilts in the show (exhibit portion)
We had a total of 730 attendees (including volunteers).

Here are the two GREAT One-Block-Wonder quilts that were seen in the show!

By request - Summertime Blues!

So many people have commented on the Challenge Quilts at the Woolley Fibers Quilt Show! Everyone loves the pattern!

The group that meets at the SW Rodeo Grounds challenged themselves with this quilt. Londa reports that it is fun to make and we all certainly enjoyed the results! So we asked for the source of the pattern.
.

"Summertime Blues" appeared in the June 2009 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting, starting on page 37. Here is a link to their online version - showing color options and instructions for the a wall-hanging size:

I think I'll start on mine!

Dog quilts and a Dawg quilt

Here are some more memories of the Woolley Fiber Quilters show - dogs (and even Dawgs) were a popular theme!!

Quilt Show memories

Here are some photos taken from the mezzanine in the Farrell Building (formerly JC Penney and Jungquist Furniture) during the quilt show. What fun to see them from above!

I can't tell you how many people mentioned to me...that they had purchased "unmentionables" on that mezzanine during the old JC Penney days. People were so happy to see the building in such good condition and in use for something as beautiful as a quilt show! Enjoy!

Day three - winding down!

What a fun show we have had! With so many appreciative attendees and great weather - until today! Well, what better day to go to a quilt show than when it is raining! And in Washington, we plan for these things.

Here are three of our daily door prize winners, looking happy about their wins! We had many more prizes and winners than these - only these three people would stand still!

Should we Blast some quilts again next year? The consensus is, YES!

Here, CJ adds some last minute binding to her quilt (don't tell her I did the same thing) and Teri measures an entry. If you're not a part of the quilt show committee, you're missing half the fun!

Quilt drop-off day was busy and a great success! When you see our show, you'll be so impressed with the variety and talent of our local quilters! It's always fun to see what others have been working on and, of course, to get ideas for your own quilting!
We enjoyed working with all the happy quilters who dropped by at Cascade Fabrics to fulfill their registrations for the show. Quilters of all ages were there!

Here is a preview of our spectacular Double Wedding Ring that will be the Woolley Fiber Quilters raffle quilt for 2010-2011! Tickets go on sale June 4, 2010 at the Blast of Blooms quilt show. This quilt is 92 inches square and is the loving work of an anonymous piecer and longarm quilted by local pro Patsi Hanseth.

Getting Closer!

We are "all the buzz" in Sedro-Woolley this week, as the windows at our show venue were painted with a special message! Quilters always home in on the word "quilt", especially when it identifies a show or a shop!

Thanks to Sheila Stewart for our professional window decor. And the wood carving is just one of many you'll see in downtown Sedro-Woolley!

How to Enter!

Word is spreading fast about the quilt show we have in store for you! If you're a quilter, enter a quilt or two! Or three! We have an registration form with all the details - hard copies of forms are available at Cascade Fabrics in Sedro-Woolley or you can ask for a soft copy by sending an inquiry to judyjj at comcast.net [replace the "at" with the "at" sign - posted this way to discourage bot e'mail harvesters].

Remember that we need a photo of your finished quilt with the entry form. Attach a photo or print out a digital photo on the back of the form. So easy!

Tell your friends about the show so they can enter, too!

Quilters' Boutique

One of the great features of the Blast of Blooms quilt show will be a Quilters' Boutique! Local quilters will offer finished items for sale - one of the most commonly asked questions at quilt shows is, "Can I buy a quilt?"

There will be quilts and quilted items for sale through the show's boutique, all lovingly crafted by local folks. We also invite local quilters to contact us (through this blog) and place their items for sale with us. Details are available on inquiry.

Anticipation is really building for the quilt show and all of the other fun events on Blast from the Past weekend! You should plan to be in downtown Sedro-Woolley!

The Quilt Show that Grew!

The Woolley Fibers Quilt Show has moved - slightly! North on Metcalf about 1.5 blocks.

The location for our show will now be 829 Metcalf, which is a large, former department store on the northeast corner of the intersection at Metcalf and State streets.

In Sedro-Woolley, this building is known as the former JC Penney store or the former Jungquist Furniture store.

While the building is in its transition to new retail occupants, the building's owner has agreed to let us have the quilt show in this location! So now we have lots of room to show you 200+ quilts, vendors, and demonstrations!

Come see us on June 4-5-6!

Quilt Show Advertising around Skagit County

The Woolley Fiber Quilters have been busy advertising our upcoming quilt show around the county! We are placing posters, "bookmarks", entry forms, and sponsorship rate cards everywhere we can think of!

On this lovely spring day, Linda Downing and Judy Johnson went to Marblemount, Concrete, and Lyman to put up some posters and talk up the show. We had such a warm reception wherever we went!

Here is Linda, placing a poster at Clark's Skagit River Cabins in Marblemount. Nicky, the guard cat, gave his approval!

Woolley Fiber Quilters - Sedro-Woolley WA

Woolley Fiber Quilters are organized to promote quilting education in Sedro-Woolley, Washington and our surrounding area. We do this primarily through holding a quilt show!

The 2010 Quilt Show - "Blast of Blooms" - will be held June 4-5-6, during the city's fun downtown festival, "Blast From the Past".

We hope you'll come to see us. We're planning on showing 200 or more quilts, enticing you with vendors, and inspiring you with demonstrations.

Sedro-Woolley is a hotbed of quilting! You'll be amazed at how many individual quilters and quilting groups are represented at our show!

Blast From the Past offers a variety of activities - Antique Car Show, Live Music, Street Vendors, and a number of family-friendly things to do, all in the downtown core.

Watch this blog for more information about our organization and the quilt show, and be sure to visit us in downtown Sedro-Woolley on the first weekend in June!
