WOOLLEY FIBER FOLLIES OCTOBER 20!

Woolley Fiber Follies!

Our first (annual?) skills-sharing day is scheduled for Saturday, October 20th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Wicker Road in Sedro-Woolley.

This is a preview of events!

Local quilters will conduct 45-minute demonstrations throughout the day on quilting, sewing, and stitching techniques that they are skilled in.  Like binding a quilt, applying mitered borders, hand-stitching for embellishment, and so much more!

These are local folks who want to share their expertise with you and to stir up interest in quilting!  After all, the Woolley Fiber Quilters 4th annual quilt show will be May 31-June 2, 2013 and you'll want to have your entries ready!

Cost for the Fiber Follies will be $5 for the day and we'll encourage preregistration when it gets closer to the time.

And if YOU have a specialty skill that you would like to demostrate, contact us via this blog site and we'll get in touch!

There are SO MANY quilters in this area who are talented and willing to share their skills with others.  You'll want to be on hand for the fun!

The Whatcom County Museum presents these upcoming quilt exhibits and events:

American Quilts: The Democratic Art
opens to the public August 4 - October 28, 2012

Along with the exhibit they will be offering two programs opening weekend:

Quilts in Women's Lives: Threads Through Time Saturday, August 4, 3 p.m.
$3 suggested donation; Museum members free
Old City Hall

More than just blankets, quilts commemorate beginnings, endings, passages and celebrations. Julie Silber, co-curator of American Quilts: The Democratic Art, 1708 – 2007, offers a rich, illustrated presentation that places quilts in the context of the lives of the women who made them, and those who lived with them. Julie is one the world's most respected quilt authorities. Curator of the renowned Esprit quilt collection in San Francisco, she is co-author of "Hearts and Hands," and "Amish: The Art of the Quilt."

Quilt Market Sunday, August 5, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
$3 suggested donation; Museum members free

Internationally known quilt dealers Julie Silber, Jean Demeter, Jane Lury and David Hupert display 19th and early 20th century American, English, and French quilts in this one-day pop-up market — a great opportunity to see and learn about these wonderful textiles. Beginning and advanced collectors will find suitable quilts for purchase as will someone wanting just one piece to warm a room. Verbal appraisals of quilts brought to the Market, $10 per quilt.

Countdown to Quilt Show!

Our third annual quilt show is June 1-2-3!  This year our theme is "Blast of Stars" and we're getting ready to shine!

Quilt show preregistration forms are now available - hard copies at Cascade Fabrics in Sedro-Woolley and soft copies via Teri Bever or Judy Johnson.  Leave a message on this blog if you need a form and don't have the current e'mail addresses.

We welcome quilters of ALL abilities to participate and display quilts.  This is a COMMUNITY quilt show and we want to show off the variety of talent that Sedro-Woolley and Skagit County quilters have to offer.  There will be some quilts displayed from outside our immediate area, too, come and see!  We plan to hang 200+ quilts again this year.

Remember to submit a photo with each entry form.  Also cite the source of your pattern on the form and in the artist's comments that will be displayed with the quilts.  We want to be sure to credit pattern designers wherever we can!

Once again, we will have local "Celebrity Judges" who will each pick one favorite as well as "People's Choice" winners in these categories:  Large (over 200" in circumference), Small (100" to 199"), Miniature (1" to 99"), Theme, Challenge ("books"), Youth, and Other (wearables, totes, etc.) .

All this in coordination with Sedro-Woolley's Blast from the Past celebration which features vendors, kids' contests, live music, Museum open house, and the vintage car show on Sunday June 3.

Downtown Sedro-Woolley!  See you there!

Story Walk and Book Challenge Quilts!

Thank you to our Celebrity Readers, volunteers, quilters, participating businesses, and Story Walkers for the great fun we had at the first “Story Walk Sedro-Woolley” on March 10!  We had so much positive feedback about the day – everyone loved hearing great stories and enjoyed the camaraderie of the shared experience.  Sedro-Woolley has a treasure in our Downtown core – this is the kind of event that home town memories are made of.  Let’s have a Story Walk again next year!

Here are photos of a few of the great quilts that were on display!!
