Twas the night before - QUILT SHOW!

We are ready for you!  Friday morning at 10 we'll open our doors to three fun-filled days of quilt-world!  Be sure to come and bring your friends. 

If you're a quilter, you'll find all kinds of quilting inspiration here.  

If you're not a quilter, you'll find inspiration for whatever you like to do.  Color and talent are everywhere!

Everyone will find lovely handmade items in our member boutique, designed to tempt you with lovely gifts for yourself or others made by local crafts people. 

Our vendors have a mouth-watering assortment of quilt-related supplies and ready-made gifts. 

So come early!  Be there for the bed turning!  Have lunch with one of our food vendors!  Vote for your favorites!  And stay late.  We don't close until 5 on Friday and you are welcome to stay all day and get to know our members!

Set up day - another smooth one with lots of experienced workers!

After 10 years, we're getting good at this!  But we still have to climb the ladders...

We rent our quilt display stands from the Fidalgo Island Quilters (thanks!) and we have a method for transporting, assembling, staging, and filling them up with beautiful quilts!  It's always a hard working day in July but we know that it will all be worth the effort! 

Thanks to our setup and display team.  Not all of whom are pictured here.  Some are camera shy and some are just too fast to jump out of the way of the camera.  You know who you are!

Quilt turn-in day - Wednesday went smoothly!

Our quilt turn-in day was possibly the best yet!  Only three quilts arrived without sleeves!  And we had lots of time in between arrivals to keep up with paperwork and staging.  Of course, that is mostly due to our amazing registrar, Judy G, and her check-in team.

Lori reports that we have plenty of decorative clothespins to clip the artists' statements to the quilts. 

 

Noni oversaw some tricky moments of adding sleeves and keeping things moving.

Virginia, a past registrar, was there to make sure the Judy G had professional support.

And we had check-in volunteers, too!

Our quilt stands were obtained, delivered, assembled, and staged.  We even hung the biggest quilts! 

Tomorrow the rest of the show goes up and our 10th annual show will be ready to roll.

Countdown to quilt show 2019!

Wednesday and Thursday this week will be COLOSSALLY busy for the Woolley Fiber Quilters, as we prepare to show you our 2019 "United We Stand" quilt show!

Wednesday is turn-in day, 10-6, at Cascade Middle School.  Please turn in the quilts you registered, all special displays, and boutique items you have for sale.  We'll take in your quilts and give you receipts for them - now is the time to confirm that you will be the one picking up your own quilts on Sunday!

Wednesday is also "staging day" as we bring in the quilt stands and other furniture that we need for the show.  After you turn in your quilts, plan to stay a while and help assemble quilt stands and assist with the logistics of the show.  We need more hands!

Thursday is set-up day and all your beautiful work will go UP on the display stands and have artist statement cards clipped on, etc.  Signs go up, the boutique display becomes reality, and when we lock the door on Thursday evening we'll be ready to open at 10 on Friday!

Thanks to all of the volunteers and quilters who have brought us this far.  Both for the show we are about to present and for the 10 years of quilt show success we have experienced so far.  Sedro-Woolley is a quilting town and we are about to show off how much!

A very special quilt show challenge - BUGS!

 
 Our challenge category this year is called "A Bug's Life" but the bug theme is in honor of the origins of our town - Sedro-Woolley.  We might have been called "Bug" or, horrors, "Bug-Woolley" except for the good sense of the WOMEN who didn't want to live in a town that could be called "HUMBUG"!



SEDRO
In 1884, Mortimer Cook brought his family to the Skagit Valley from California.  He bought and cleared 34 acres along the Skagit River, near what is now Riverfront Park.  He ran a general store there, opened a shingle mill, and was the town’s first postmaster.  Mortimer Cook wanted to name the town after himself, but learned that Washington Territory already had a town named “Cook”.  He then proposed the name “Bug,” in honor of the bat-sized mosquitoes that bedeviled the loggers, but his wife didn’t care for it, nor did fellow settlers.  The women suggested the use of “Cedra,” a Spanish word for cedar, but the spelling wasn’t certain and the name became distorted into “Sedro,” which stuck.  On December 7, 1885, they christened the post office Sedro.

WOOLLEY

In 1890, Philip A Woolley purchased 84 acres just north of Sedro, where he founded the town of Woolley; he died there and is buried in Sedro-Woolley’s Union Cemetery.  The two towns developed a rivalry and did not merge until 1898.  The town of Woolley was flourishing, with a growing population, and many businesses, including a coal processing plant employing approximately 2000 people.

In 1891 and 1893, Woolley suffered two major fires, which severely curtailed its growth.  Both towns were struggling through the economic woes of the time and it became clear that both of their interests would best be served by a merger.  However, neither town was willing to give up its name.  After much spirited debate, “Sedro-Woolley” became the official name of the newly-merged town, which was incorporated on December 19, 1898.

Everyone is welcome to enter quilts in our show.  You don't have to be a Woolley Fiber Quilters member and there is no charge to enter.  (But we'd love it if you join!)

YES you can enter multiple items!
 
We only ask that you don't enter quilts that have been in our show in any previous year. 

YES there are categories for Fiber Art and "Other" if you are submitting something other than a quilt!
 
Please read the registration form carefully and:

• Measure your quilt accurately.

 

• Choose a category for your quilt.  Our theme is "United we Stand" so if you interpret the theme in any way on your quilt, you can select the "Theme" category.

 

• If you would like to offer your quilt for sale, we are happy to mark it with your price and take payment through our Member Boutique.  WFQ commission is 15% of total.  Payouts take place in the 10 days following the show.

 

• You MUST include a photo of your quilt or quilt top.  You can print it on the back of your registration form or on a separate sheet.  Be sure it is labeled with your name if it is separate.

 

• You MUST have a 4" hanging sleeve on the top of your quilt if it is a "medium" or "large" size.  To make the sleeve, cut a piece of fabric 11" wide by the length of your quilt top edge, sew it into a tube, and baste it securely to the top edge on the back. Smaller quilts will be pinned to sheets for display.

 

• Apply a SEWN label to your quilt with your name.

 

• Submit your registration form(s) - one for each entry - BY JUNE 29, 2019.  EARLIER is better.

• Bring your quilt(s) to Cascade Middle School on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  It takes a little time to accept your entries so plan to stay until you have all your quilts matched with registration forms and you have your receipts.  This is the ONLY day for quilt drop-off.

• We set up everything on Thursday, July 11th and the show opens on Friday the 12th at 10 a.m. 

• Your quilts will be available for pick up on Sunday, July 14th, from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  This is the ONLY time for quilt pick up.  Please be on time.  Bring your receipts from drop-off day.

• We welcome you to volunteer to assist at our show!  Please check the volunteer schedule at Cascade Fabrics or contact us via Facebook.   

Finally, please encourage your friends to enter their quilts and encourage everyone to attend the show!  Our venue at Cascade Middle School allows us 10,000+ square feet of quilting delights!  We are working hard to bring you the BEST SHOW EVER and we know you and your friends will be inspired and impressed by quilting in Sedro-Woolley and Skagit County!
