There's still time!  Bring your registration forms to Cascade Fabrics or e'mail them to Judy or Ginny!!  And remember, your quilt doesn't have to be finished until June 3!  We just need the registration form NOW!

Time to register your quilts for "Blast of Freedom"!

May 16 is the deadline for registering your quilts for the show!  Registration forms are available at Cascade Fabrics or from pretty much any member of Woolley Fiber Quilters!  If you're sitting at home, late at night in your pajamas, reading this, and want a form, leave a comment on this post and we'll e'mail one to you (MS Word format)!

ALL local quilters are invited to show quilts - and "local" has a broad definition.  Join in the fun!  We regularly get exhibitors from Skagit, Whatcom, and Snohomish counties.  Although most of the quilts shown are from the Sedro-Woolley area.  We're a quilting town, in case you didn't know! 

We especially invite YOUNG quilters to show their work.  We love to see it!

Every Large, Medium, and Small (see form for official dimensions) quilt needs a hanging sleeve attached to the top, in the back, that has at least 4" of open space.  The easiest way to do this is to cut a piece of fabric 9" wide by the length of your quilt and sew it into a long tube.  Baste it securely to the back of your quilt.  ASK if you have questions about this.  Samples at Cascade Fabrics.

You also need to submit a photo of your quilt with the registration form.  The easiest way is to print your form, then feed it back through your printer to print the photo on the back.  But you can submit a photo in a lot of ways.

The preregistration serves several purposes - it tells us how many quilt display stands to rent, it tells us how many quilts of each size to plan for (and we do a LOT of planning), we print the information about the quilt on a card for show attendees to read, and we use the information to ensure that each quilt gets back to its owner.

So send in your forms!  Earlier is better.  But the deadline is May 16th.  Quilt drop-off day for the show will be June 3 at Cascade Fabrics.  That means you can enter a quilt now, and finish it before June 3!

If you decide to donate a quilt to a Veteran's organization - read this!

During the 2014 show, some exhibitors plan to donate their quilt to a Veteran's organization.  This is an option and we applaud those quilters who have made this such a great part of "Blast of Freedom"!

Here are the current standards, as we are aware of them, for the two Veteran's organizations with local ties.  If you plan to donate yours to another organization or Veteran's hospital, contact them for their specifications.

American Hero Quilt Standards:

·        Quilts should be made from 100% good quality cotton.

·        Quilts should be approximately 63x87 inches. We find that many of the soldiers need the extra length and width to keep warm.

·        The quilts should be red, white and blue fabric.

·        Backs should be 100% cotton and 10 inches larger on each side. For example: If the quilt top measures 63x87 inches, the back should be 73x97 inches.

·        Please don't use beige or white fabrics on the back. Many of our injured soldiers have open wounds which can cause stains.

·        Binding should be cut 2 1/2 inches wide, at least 300 inches in length, and sewn diagonally rather than straight across.

Quilts of Valor:

·        Use high quality 100% cotton quilting weight fabric appropriate for an adult.

·        Top: Recommended 60”x80”; minimum 55”x65”

·        Backing 4 to 5 inches larger on all four sides.

·        Use straight cut or bias double fold binding; join binding pieces with diagonal seams.

·        Apply neatly by hand or machine.

·        Machine or hand quilting in an appropriate design. (Free hand, pantograph or computer guided patriotic or generic designs.)

·        Balanced stitches of uniform size. (5-7 stitches per inch if quilted by hand; 8-12 stitches per inch if by machine.)

·        Low-loft quality batting. (Cotton, 80/20, or poly from Pellon, Warm Company, Hobbs or Quilter’s Dream.)

·        Label must say Quilt of Valor and included a blank for name of recipient.

·        Label should include first names of piecer(s) and quilter(s) and state.

·        You may include a note to the recipient.

·        Make a coordinating pillowcase or bag in which to place your quilt. (Required)

As in all good quilt shows - we need your REGISTRATION FORMS for the quilts you plan to exhibit in Blast of Freedom!  Registration forms - with a photo of your quilt (or quilt top if it's not quite done...) are due May 16th!  Forms are available at Cascade Fabrics or leave a message here and we'll e'mail you one!

National Quilting Day Flash Mob Parade 2014!

Once again, some hardy Woolley Fiber Quilters and friends staged a Flash Mob Parade in Downtown Sedro-Woolley to celebrate National Quilting Day and to promote our upcoming quilt show in June!  Doesn't this look like fun?  Chances are pretty good that we'll do it again next year!  Join us!
