Pacific West Quilt Show - Skagit quilters well-represented!
The Pacific West Quilt Show, the premier event for the Association of Pacific West Quilters, was a great place to spot the work of Skagit County quilters! Held August 23-24-25 at the Tacoma Convention Center, the center was full of quilts for the annual show, special exhibits, classes, guild information, quilt appraisals, and vendors!
Quilters in 18 western U.S. states and Canadian provinces vied for prizes in this juried show.
Here are the local works spotted on the exhibit floor:

2014 Quilt Show Theme Selected!!
Blast of Freedom!
As is our tradition, at the wrap-up meeting for this year's quilt show we selected a theme for the next one! Our theme will be patriotic; "Blast of Freedom" with Red, White, and Blue as the dominant color combo!
There is more information about the show entry opportunities coming, and we're planning to have a very special demonstration of quilting for veterans. Watch this blog all year long for updates!
Here is the most important one: The quilt show needs a home! As your saw during the 2013 Blast of Bubbles show, we need a big space (or two) downtown to house the quilt show for Blast from the Past weekend, June 6-7-8, 2014. Neither of the buildings we used this year will be available to us next year. We have previously investigated all possiblities in the downtown core and have not found a suitable home for 2014 yet. So we're putting out the call: If you own or manage a BIG space in downtown Sedro-Woolley that could be made available for the quilt show next year, please let us know via this blog!
In the meantime, our local quilters will be going ahead on faith that a space will be found and putting together fabulous quilts for you to enjoy at Blast of Freedom 2014!

Blast of Bubbles - birds!
We had a few quilts featuring birds in our show this year! Here are some sample photos - perhaps this is a trend? I hear that owls are back in fashion!
Somebody found her favorite!

Blast of Bubbles - a view from the mezzanine!
We were so lucky to use an historic building for one of our two quilt show venues this year. The former "JC Penney" building has passed through several hands and had several lives since then. But the building is well cared for and is "between tenants" right now. So we were able to secure it for our show! Here are some photos taken of the display floor from the mezzanine area. So spectacular!
Now owned by Pat Farrell, we like to call it
"The Farrell Building"!
