Turn-in day! Shades of the Northwest is coming together!

Today is the day everyone turns in their quilt entries for the show!  We have a lot of experience with this after nine years - and we have a great system for accepting the quilts, matching them up with their registration forms, and labeling them for the show!  So there are a lot of folks here, registering and staging quilts for hanging tomorrow.

 

Speaking of staging, we also picked up the display stands that we rent from the Fidalgo Island Quilters and those stands are going up right now! 

So here are a FEW of the folks on site getting the show under way.  We are doing it all so that YOU can come and see us, Friday-Saturday-Sunday, at the Shades of the Northwest Quilt Show in sunny Sedro-Woolley!!

It's Quilt Show Week!!

Let's get this party started!  Today we got our supplies out of storage (we inventoried them last week) and pre-staged them at Cascade Middle School.  Tomorrow, Wednesday the 11th, we will take in all the show entries ALL DAY LONG and pre-stage the quilt stands.  Thursday the 12th, we hang the show!

Friday at 10 a.m. we open the doors!

So much will happen between now and then but you'll be AMAZED on Friday when you arrive!

Shades of the Northwest quilt show is almost here!

The Woolley Fiber Quilters' ninth annual quilt show is just around the corner!

This year our theme is "Shades of the Northwest" and we have some wonderful quilts to show you!

;July 13-14-15 at Cascade Middle School (905 McGarigle) in Sedro-Woolley. 

10-5 on Friday and Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.

All your favorite features!  250+ quilts, member boutique, demonstrations, vendors, raffle quilt, and the bed turning!

Plan to come and spend the day in Sedro-Woolley.  We know how to have fun!

Featured Quilter at 2018 Shades of the Northwest show!

She is a prolific and talented quilter.  You will LOVE her quilts and she'll be on site during the show to tell about her quilts and her inspirations.

Cascade Fabrics celebrates 40th anniversary!

We love ALL local quilt shops!  But OUR local quilt shop in Sedro-Woolley is special!

Cascade Fabrics, owned and operated by Bobi Kelley, will celebrate 40 years in business on May 10, 2018.  As quilters, we are people who love excess!  So we are planning to celebrate this milestone all month long!!

We believe that Cascade Fabrics is the oldest single-owner owned fabric shop in the state of Washington. 

So stop in and say hello - during the anniversary week Bobi is having a special sale, but she always has some sale prices and a fun variety of fabrics and notions.  Sign up for a class!  Meet your friends there!

Traditional storefronts in downtown Sedro-Woolley are a big part of our city’s charm.  We are lucky to have dedicated business owners who preserve the flavor of a true home town.
 
One such retailer, Cascade Fabrics, will soon celebrate 40 years in business.
 
Bobi and Paul Kelley opened the doors on May 10, 1978.  “We chose to open a fabric store because it was the only kind of store not in downtown Sedro-Woolley,” Bobi recalls.  The town “already had every other kind of business you would want.”  Paul came from a career at JC Penney and Oliver Hammer and was a true “retailer”.
 

They set out to accommodate people who needed general fabrics and notions, not just the cotton fabrics so popular today. 

Bobi remembers that, “Paul wanted a ‘firm name’; something solid and basic.  Nothing ‘cutesy’.  I wanted cutesy!”

They kept up with sewing trends through the years by listening to customers.  “Paul always made sure that we stock what the customers want.  When we first opened, people were still making their own clothes.”  But Cascade Fabrics has ridden the wave of trends, and today that includes quilting.

Paul passed away in 2011 and Bobi’s terrier companion, Murphy, passed away in February 2018.  Bobi remains enthusiastic about sewing and fiber crafts in the area.

“My favorite thing is ‘petting the fabric’,” Bobi says, echoing the sentiment of quilters everywhere.  “And it’s not like going to work when you come here because it’s a happy place.  My customers are like family.”

Here are the quilt show registration forms, as stored on Google Docs.  We recommend that you download one or both files and use the one that works best on your computer.  The MS Word doc looks a little screwy because Google Docs doesn't display it the same way MS Word does.  But the PDF doc should look fine.

Everyone is welcome to enter quilts in our show.  You don't have to be a Woolley Fiber Quilters member and there is no charge to enter.  (But we'd love it if you join!)
 
We only ask that you don't enter quilts that have been in our show in any previous year.
 
Please read the registration form carefully and:
 

• Measure your quilt accurately.
• Choose a category for your quilt.  Our theme is "Shades of the Northwest" so if there a flavor of the Pacific Northwest on your quilt you can select the "Theme" category.
•  
• If you would like to offer your quilt for sale, we are happy to mark it with your price and take payment through our Member Boutique.  WFQ commission is 15% of total.  Payouts take place in the 10 days following the show.
•  
• You MUST include a photo of your quilt or quilt top.  You can print it on the back of your registration form or on a separate sheet.  Be sure it is labeled with your name if it is separate.
•  
• You MUST have a 4" hanging sleeve on the top of your quilt if it is a "medium" or "large" size.  To make the sleeve, cut a piece of fabric 11" wide by the length of your quilt top edge, sew it into a tube, and baste it securely to the top edge on the back. Smaller quilts will be pinned to sheets for display.
•  
• Apply a SEWN label to your quilt with your name.
•  
• Submit your registration form(s) - one for each entry - BY JUNE 29, 2018.  EARLIER is better.

• Bring your quilt(s) to Cascade Middle School on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  It takes a little time to accept your entries so plan to stay until you have all your quilts matched with registration forms and you have your receipts.  This is the ONLY day for quilt drop-off.

• We set up everything on Thursday, July 12th and the show opens on Friday the 13th at 10 a.m. 

• Your quilts will be available for pick up on Sunday, July 15th, from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  This is the ONLY time for quilt pick up.  Please be on time.  Bring your receipts from drop-off day.

• We welcome you to volunteer to assist at our show!  Please check the volunteer schedule at Cascade Fabrics or contact us via Facebook.   

Finally, please encourage your friends to enter their quilts and encourage everyone to attend the show!  Our venue at Cascade Middle School allows us 10,000+ square feet of quilting delights!  We are working hard to bring you the BEST SHOW EVER and we know you and your friends will be inspired and impressed by quilting in Sedro-Woolley and Skagit County!
